Church Banner Group

About 12 years ago we welcomed a new minister to our church namely Ken Thom. When Ken found our Busy Bees needlework group in action he asked if we would be prepared to make banners for our church. Previously we had made a few simple banners for special events but not to have permanently decorating the church walls. However our lovely ladies rose to the challenge and after lots of careful thought and no experience we started our first banner. We found it difficult working on the banner at our normal Busy Bees meeting, so decided to form a smaller group of the people most interested in banner making on a different day and so the Banner Group came into being. We have been and still are learning as we go. We learn about the best sort of materials to use and have found that though some designs look quite good on the table while we are working on them they do not look quite so good when hung and looked at from a distance. Simple and bold can be the best and with a message (not always with words) hopefully focus the mind for worship and help people be aware of God’s goodness to us all. We have many people in our congregation who are encouraging and this is very helpful. We meet at the various homes of our members about once every 2 months more often if we need to. We have probably made around 20 banners so far not all for our own church. This is something enjoyable and satisfying in a lovely group situation.
