Worship is at the centre of our church’s life. Services begin with the congregation standing as the Bible is brought in and placed open on the communion table at the front of the church. This is to remind us that the Word of God is central to what we believe and should be given due reverence. Services are held weekly on Sundays commencing at 10-30 a.m. and last for about an hour. Communion is shared together on the third Sunday in every month. Our Junior Church shares with the rest of the congregation for the first part of the service before leaving for teaching appropriate to them. This arrangement works well as it gives people of all ages the opportunity to worship together as a family and for the younger ones to go into groups to learn more about Jesus and the Christian faith. Occasionally we have a Family Service when the whole congregation remains together throughout the whole of the service. |
As we are currently without a minister our services are conducted by a variety of visiting ministers, preachers, clergy and lay people. We have a church worship group which is responsible for overseeing worship, finding preachers, planning services, occasionally leading services and choosing appropriate music. We use a variety of instruments during worship (not always in the same service) including: organ, piano, guitar, percussion and sometimes pre-recorded music. We have two hymnbooks in regular use; Rejoice and Sing and Mission Praise. Brislinton URC is part of a local LEP that consists of four Anglican churches, a Methodist church and a House church. About four times a year the churches in this partnership come together for shared worship which gives everyone an opportunity to meet friends and to learn more about each other’s denomination and tradition.
Brislington URC also joins with others at various times. For example once a year, during the Women’s World Day of Prayer, not only do we share worship together in Brislington but are linked with people from all around the world. We believe that worship is very important. It draws us closer to God and enables us to bond together as a fellowship of believers to hear the word of God and to praise and honour him. Through worship we learn together, grow in faith together, pray together and find strength together as a church family. Our aim, therefore, in all things but especially in worship is to be a welcoming, supporting and caring people who together are a living and true witness to God. |
